This program aims to build a safety net for Ma’ Mara Sakit Village community. “Sonduk” is a South Sudanese Arabic word loosely translated to ‘suitcase.’ The term is derived from “Sonduk-Sonduk,” which is Merry Go Round, a concept many South Sudanese, especially women, know. In that context, ‘Sonduk’ symbolizes a ‘safety deposit box.’ We use the word in the same spirit, which translates ‘Social Justice Sonduk’ to ‘Social Justice “safety deposit box.” Ma’ Mara Sakit Village puts some resources aside as the ‘Dignity Fund’ to provide emergency support to our members experiencing security threats or any form of sexual and gender-based violence and needing support from Ma’ Mara Sakit Village community to land back on their feet.
